This essay is my life right now

Hola!

Today was okay, nothing special again. I went to class. We are still working on the subjunctive in language, but it is the last thing we’re covering before the final on Wednesday. I wore my new dress today and got complimented by my teacher. She thought it was very cute. In history we spent 5+ minutes watching music video remixes of el Rey Juan Carlos saying “Porque no te callas?” Which basically means “why don’t you shut up?” to Hugo Chavez, el president de Venezuela. That was entertaining. We also talked about important dates in Spain. We did not, however, talk about la Reina Isabel II, which was on our agenda today. In literature we talked about more depressing texts that entailed domestic abuse and abandonment. I always feel so happy after that class. The definite highlight of the day was culture class, where she brought in a tapa for us to try. It was called patatas braves. They are little chunks of baked potato that you dip in these sauces. I absolutely loved the sauces and I asked where we could buy them, so I could take them home and share them with the fambam. Unfortunately, you can’t really buy them at the supermarket and have to dig around town for them. We’ll see how it goes; I don’t know if I liked them that much.

For lunch we had fried zucchini and fried pork. My host mom scolded me for not eating all my pork. I just cut off the fatty bits. She told me that it was meat from the back and that there is no fat on that part of the body. It just looks like fat but it’s really meat. Needless to say, I apologized for not eating it all but I still think it’s fat. Afterwards, I walked to the ISA office to work on my essay that’s due tomorrow until our mandatory meeting at 6. We just talked about our trip to Portugal this weekend and our goodbye dinner next week that ISA is paying for.

I walked home and worked some more, then went to dinner. We had French fries and marinated chicken. Love that chicken marinade but it is super oily. The boys that are also living in my host mom’s rooms kept on trying to steal my food. They always ask for more when we finish eating and Africa always says no, they need to eat too. It amazes me because I am always stuffed full at the end of meals here; it is way more food than I’m used to eating in the US.

Now, I am just finishing up my essay and going to bed. Tomorrow I plan on going to some museums after lunch, so I should have more interesting things to report. And I need to put up Segovia and Barcelona pictures!!! I will try to remember tomorrow.
