Carpe Diem

Hola!

Today was my first Saturday in Salamanca! We wanted to sleep in because we didn’t get back to the apartment until 3:30 in the morning but we had to wake up at 9:30 to go to breakfast at 10. After breakfast we went to a museum, specifically the museum of art deco and art nouveau. It was very interesting and unlike any other museum I’ve ever been to. It had pottery, jewelry, toys, figurines and fans. They made me fork over my camera before so I didn’t get to take any pictures for you, but I kept the museum guide they gave me and it has some pictures. I’ll take a picture of it and load it on facebook. Anyway, it was actually pretty cool, although I wasn’t able to stay in the porcelain doll room for very long; they’re faces are so creepy. But they had some amazing marble and metal sculptures that were just beautiful and some of the fans were exquisite.

Afterwards we went to this beautiful garden overlooking the city and we saw a fence that had all these locks on it. I’m going to ask my ISA directors on Monday what it means.

We wanted to go to dinner so we cut through the old cathedral. I’d never been in the old cathedral before, and we looked at a mummified arm they had in one of the niches. It was creepy but there was definitely a morbid fascination there.

Dana met up with some friends from Madrid and we had lunch with them. They rip you off at these restaurants. First they charged us for sitting outside, and then they brought us bread and charged us for that on the bill! Water isn’t free here either. I think I’d much rather eat here than out just because of things like that and having to deal with splitting the bill. I’d just rather not deal with it.

After lunch I just chilled at home while Dana took a nap. She’s going out again tonight but I just can’t because I am so tired from last night. We didn’t have dinner until 10 pm anyway. It was salad and chicken is this really yummy marinade. I love her marinades. We also met the lady that will be living with us. She is much older and lives in France, even though her parents were originally from Spain. She lived in San Francisco for 12 years and she has actually heard of Fremont, but not Davis. That’s okay. It’s really exciting just to meet someone that knows where I’m from without having to say it’s near San Francisco. Now I have to do homework so I don’t have to do it tomorrow!
