Running with the bulls

Hola!

Mondays suck. I stayed up late last night avoiding homework and talking to people and I didn’t sleep well last night for reasons unbeknownst to me, but at least I know I’ll sleep well tonight! So we did the usual wake up routine that I described a couple of entries ago, and we watched the news as we ate breakfast, as always. I don’t know how many of you know this but there is a Spanish tradition going on right now. For one week every July in San Fermín they do running with the bulls, and every morning there is coverage of it on the news. It is one of the most dangerous, stupid things I have ever seen. There are thousands of people there attempting to run with the bulls. Half the time a bull bowls them over, or they run into another person because it is so crowded and fall underneath the bulls. I am surprised more people aren’t hurt. Anyway, many people went to San Fermín this weekend. It goes without saying that quite a lot of drinking goes on there during this week.

I also attempted to do something different this morning. I did a picture log of my walk to school; every block or so I took a new picture. I think it is a great way to show you guys what Salamanca really is like. I will put them up on facebook tonight in the Salamanca folder.

Then, classes! Language was as boring as ever. We’re doing the imperfect and preterite, which I’ve only been taught about 5 times. Contemporary history was still set on things that are decidedly not contemporary, but whatever. Literature was okay, we were assigned a three page essay due in three weeks and I’m not quite sure what I have to write about. Culture was fun, we watched soundless videos about the regions of Spain.

Again I took pictures of the way home, but I went a different way so you can see a different part of the town. How exciting! I rested briefly and went to have lunch which was this beautiful potato and tuna salad. It was delicious. I pretty much chilled on my computer the rest of the day, and sent out a couple of postcards after I got up the nerve to buy stamps out of the tobacco shop. It smelled gross. Then I had dinner, which was a Spanish tortilla and made conversation with my host family. Now I have homework to finish quickly and lots of sleep to catch up on. Here’s for a slightly more exciting day tomorrow!
