Surfear=To Surf

Hola from Santander!

This morning I had a wonderful breakfast of many fruits, pastries, and cups of hot milk. Afterward, I went to the beach, which is only about a 5 minute walk from our hotel, and swam for a bit. The skies were a little cloudy but once you got used to the temperature of the water, it was really fun. I told Crystal and Rachael about body surfing and now it’s their favorite ocean activity.

I was very proud of myself because on my way back to the hotel I successfully bought non-drowsy Dramamine using only Spanish! I needed it for the boat ride later in the day that we took to our surf lessons. Surfing! It is definitely not as easy as it looks on TV. I only stood up on the board twice and had some of the most awesome wipe-outs of the life. One time I was under the board, another time I did a spin in the water. It was incredible and I know I’m going to be sore tomorrow! It seemed like we were out there for hours but I think it was only about one. On the way back to the embarcadero I took tons of pictures of Santander from the bay! You will have to see them on facebook tomorrow!

We walked from the embarcadero to the peninsula where the Palacio Real is. I know I went to the Palacio Real in Madrid, but there is one in Santander too. We took a train ride tour around the very small peninsula and saw three different weddings going on at the Palacio. Our tour ended at a tiny zoo. There was a bird enclosure, a penguin enclosure, and a seal enclosure. I took pictures of all three.

Afterward I went back to the hotel and took a much needed bath. After the surfing lessons I felt like I would start dropping salt out of my very pores. Today was an incredible day, and I hope tomorrow is just as amazing!

We are going to visit a little medieval town and the Santander lighthouse. I’ll let you know all about it!
