Hello!
I got switched into the advanced class last night and sadly we did the same exact thing in my advanced class today as we did in my intermediate class yesterday! In my history class we watched a movie, kind of. He stopped the movie every 2 minutes and did commentary. We also have this lady in my class that is a French professor or something and she has a question every 5 minutes at least. It would be interesting if the two of them didn’t talk so fast and I can actually understand her questions. Next was literature. We got into the more literature part of it and started discussing the modernism movement. Tonight I have to read a poem Sonatina by Ruben Dario and comment on its uses of modernism. Lastly I had my class on Spanish culture. This is quickly becoming my favorite class. She have us a 8 question quiz on acceptable behavior in Spain, such as what is the correct thing to say when someone sneezes, and we spent the rest of the class going over the answers and discussing how it differs in our own country of origin.
Later on I met up with some of my group because it was Erin’s birthday. We went to this cute little store called Valor and had churros con chocolate. It is a classic Spanish dish and it was my first time having it.
Fortunately, I was able to meet up with a UC Davis graduate student, Kelly. Last quarter I participated in the study she is doing to earn her PhD and spent quite a bit of time talking to her about Spain. It was very exciting that we got to meet up and just talk.
Dinner was at 9, like usual and we had Spanish hamburgers. They’re pretty much the same as American hamburgers just with different spices. Now I have to finish up some homework before class tomorrow! On Friday we’re going to Santander, so look forward to more pictures and a long interesting blog about beaches in Spain. Hasta maƱana!
