Hello!
Sorry I wasn’t able to post this on the correct day due to a general lack of internet in my place of residence, but i am writing i ton the correct day and that’s what matters! This morning we walked to class with our new French roommate. She’s only here for a week, but she’s really cool. Her name is Julie, which sounds so much better in French then it does in English. In my language class we did the conditional. We did an exercise to see how much of a pessimist or optimist we are. I was deemed a pessimist because I believe we’re going to run out of petroleum and oil one day and I think the world will be overpopulated. Okay, not only is the world already overpopulated, but I am a realist not a pessimist. I study biology, it isn’t like I have no idea about the problems the world is facing right now. Whatever. Then I had history. My professor wore a brown shirt with brown watches today. We’re still on one of the Felipes. They’re all starting to blend together, which isn’t good given that I have a test on Thursday. In literature we talked about these funny plays on words. Here is an example: A book is the lifejacket of loneliness and the boat captain’s watch counts the waves. It’s pretty interesting. I also have a test in this class on Thursday. In my culture class we went over the Franco era. I have officially learned more contemporary history in my culture class than in my class on contemporary history.
Lunch was a vegetable stew with pork and melon for dessert. It was really good. Afterwards, ISA took us on a tour of the cathedral. It was so beautiful! We went up to the top of the cathedral and had absolutely gorgeous views of Salamanca. I can’t wait to share the pictures with all of you! We also had to go up and down so very narrow spiral staircases; it was quite scary.
Just a half hour after our tour we went and had another football game. This time we got to play on a grass field so there were no injuries, at least external. I think it is a successful game not if I helped my team win, but if I prevent the other team from winning as easily. This shows how much talent for soccer I have. I just basically get in people’s faces and try to kick the ball haphazardly away from them, or get in the way of a ball going in the general direction of the goal. I feel I did this. However, apparently I was never taught how to correctly deflect the ball, because I insisted on using the fleshiest parts of my legs to do it. Therefore, I am pretty sure my legs will have nice purple splotches all over them tomorrow. I’ll let you know how it goes. Anyway, I had tons of fun and got in a little exercise, which I desperately need with the diet here.
I barely made it home in time for dinner, which was a sandwich. I then got into an interesting discussion about Alberto Contador with my host mother and brother. For those of you who don’t know, Alberto Contador is a famous Spanish bike rider who has won the tour de France before. He was in a slight scandal a few months ago where he tested positive for a banned substance, but only a very small amount was recorded and he claimed it was from eating meat in which the substance was given to cows. My host family is under the impression that this was completely ridiculous and an attempt to befoul Contador’s name. In their words, Armstrong was on all the cancer drugs and no one ever said anything to him about doping but when Contador has 0.00000005 parts of a banned substance in him all hell breaks loose. I refrained from commenting back too much because I really like my host family, needless to say I am an Armstrong fan and I think Contador could use some manners.
Now I have tons of homework to do. I guess I’ll have to post this in the morning when I finally get internet again at school. The internet here just went completely kaput while I was talking on skype last night and hasn’t decided to come back since. Fingers crossed I wake up tomorrow and it’s back. Bye!
